Soon afterwards Brian landed a new post as Head of Mathematics at Wilmslow Grammar School, so we moved to our final home in Bramhall.

This was in 1960 and we paid the princely sum of £2,900 for a four-bedroomed house with a large kitchen. Brian's mother lent us £600 to help pay for it,which we paid her back over the next few years.
The families on either side of us were, at No. 50, Mrs Hay and her two spinster daughters and at No. 54, the Durrants and their 20+ son & daughter. We often wondered what they must have thought when they saw a motor bike disgorge a young couple and their three young children! I'll bet their hearts sank.
However, they accepted us, particularly the Hays. We had bonfires in our back garden and they came with loads of fireworks, they took the children to pantomimes every year for years and Mrs Hay baby-sat when Brian and I went out.
