I can't honestly say I remember very much of my early life before I went to school at the age of six. I do remember often visiting my great uncle Archie and Aunty Lil at their home in Everton, because they had a dog (an Airdale I think, called Kim) and my cousins Frank and John had a train layout in the attic, which I found great fun.
The house was lit by gaslight, which gave out a peculiar yellow glow, so everyone looked ill. Aunty Lil used to cut the bread very thickly, which didn't do much for my grandfather because he liked his bread cut paper thin.
