Brian the Master

I heard that his Assembly addresses were remarkably imaginative, innovative, attention-catching, indeed a talking point for days afterwards.

One of his colleagues told a friend of mine that Brian had one of the finest minds he had ever come across and the other Deputy Head once shook hands with Brian and told him it had been an honour to work with him.

Brian had become joint-Deputy Head (being nagged into it by Andrew). He was a very modest man, despite his obvious gifts and talents (obvious to everyone else that is!).

In 1964 he started The Rollerson Singers, which gave concerts for charity, raising thousands of pounds over the years, until his final Summer Concert in July 2000, when the conducting was shared with our friend Helen Beck, because his strength was already failing because of the cancer.

It I a shame really, that the things that stick in one's mind from the past are often so traumatic. I suppose it is from these events that we learn the most and become wiser and more compassionate.
