Retirement

As Wilmslow was amalgamating with another school, there was a surplus of deputy heads, so Brian decided to take early retirement (thank goodness). The job had become increasingly stressful and the strain was showing.

Julia had married in South Africa, Gordon married and went to South Africa and Andrew married and went to Australia. For the first time in my life we went globe trotting to visit our children.

On our visit to Australia we went via Bangkok, visiting temples and sailing on the Klongs - quite an experience. On our way home we visited San Francisco, another eye-opener. We visited Julia and Gordon a few times in Welkom, Cape Town and Richard's Bay in Natal.

On one occasion we visited a delightful place called Somerset West. I just happened to remark that if I ever came to South Africa, this was the place I would like to live. Before we knew it we were looking in Estate Agents' windows, saw a delightful little house and arranged to buy it! Mad!

We ended-up going for three months each year, for several years and we had, and I now have, many treasured memories of this most beautiful part of the Cape Province.
